Mary Stevens Hospice provides vital care and support to patients and families across the West Midlands. To ensure the facilities continued to meet the needs of those who use them, the hospice required a refurbishment to refresh spaces, enhance comfort and modernise key systems.
Scope of Works
Igloo Property Group was commissioned to carry out a comprehensive refurbishment at Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge, focusing on improving facilities for patients, families, and staff. Our scope of work included:
Refurbishment of patient bedrooms, creating bright and comfortable spaces
Installation of accessible wetrooms designed for safety and ease of use
Refreshed interiors, including new flooring, lighting and decor, to provide a calm and welcoming atmosphere
Upgraded air-conditioning and ventilation systems to increase comfort and improve energy efficiency
A redesigned reception and entrance area to reflect the hospice’s warm, caring ethos and provide a welcoming first impression
Throughout the project, our team worked closely with hospice management to ensure minimal disruption to daily operations, delivering high-quality finishes with sensitivity and care.
Challenges & Solutions
Delivering a refurbishment within a hospice environment required a sensitive and well‑planned approach. The hospice continued to provide end-of-life care throughout the project, so disruption had to be kept to a minimum.
Maintaining continuous operations
Works were completed in phases, allowing essential areas to remain available and ensuring care services were not interrupted.
Respecting patient and family needs
Our team adopted considerate practices to maintain privacy and dignity, whilst managing noise and activity levels.
Integrating modern systems
Air-conditioning and ventilation improvements were incorporated into the existing infrastructure to enhance comfort and performance.
Key Outcomes
We have phased these works to keep the hospice operational whilst delivering a modern, uplifting environment that supports the hospice’s ongoing work. It includes refurbished patient areas, accessible wet rooms, upgraded air-conditioning and ventilation systems, and refreshed reception and communal spaces — creating a welcoming and comfortable setting for patients, visitors, and staff.
Final Phase
The final phase of works is planned to further enhance facilities at Mary Stevens Hospice. This will involve constructing a small extension to increase the size of an existing bedroom, enabling the installation of an additional ensuite. The final phase is due to commence imminently and will further enhance the comfort and functionality of the hospice’s accommodation.
